Prototype Interactive at the World Game Expo in Dubai

This week, Internet Explorer invited us to the World Game Expo in Dubai where we were scheduled in to do a presentation about some of the projects we did for them and chat about the addition of WebGL to Internet Explorer 11 with Windows 8.1. We were excited to check it out especially with how gaming has changed dramatically over the past 10 years with regards to the development of online gaming. Here is what we got up to:

Internet Explorer asked Prototype Interactive to present at the Game Expo and the presentation focused on WebGL and additional feature of Internet Explorer 11. Here are the highlights from the presentation.

Internet Explorer: Moving to WebGL

What is WebGL?

WebGL is a Javascript API for rendering interactive 3D graphics and 2D graphics within any compatible web browser without the use of plugins. WebGL is integrated completely into all the web standards of the browser allowing GPU accelerated usage of physics and image processing and effects as part of the web page canvas.

Fullscreen Support:

The other main addition to Internet Explorer 11 on desktops is support for the Fullscreen API. This means the Browser object's Request fullscreen action can now work in Internet Explorer 11, which includes allowing iframe'd games to become fullscreen. It's a nice feature for extra immersion in your game and can be especially useful for arcades such as our own.

Overall opinion

From watching the video it is clear that Internet Explorer have raised their game with regards to online gaming developments and competition from other browsers. Overall, we find Internet Explorer 11 extremely exciting and some of the games we got the chance to try at the expo were excellent.
