Social Media tips, tricks and more

February 20, 2012

With Social Media, we can transform the way we interact and communicate not just with our clients, but also about our products and services. Prototype creates social media strategies and we understand how difficult these can be to think and apply. So to help all those who are planning to jump on the Social Media (SM) bandwagon, here are few social media tips and tricks to help you get started:

   Step One: Define Your Goals

Having a clear roadmap of what you want to achieve and how you will get there is very important to start a successful social media presence. Whether it is about creating awareness/selling products and services or it is about raising your brand awareness - you will have different concepts for each scenario and once you are clear about your objectives, you will find it easier to define your tactics and create a strategy that works.

   Step Two: Share and Give

SM is all about sharing and getting involved in the community by providing insightful and relevant information. You can share industry insights, tips and tricks or best practices related to your business. It is important that the content you share is interesting and eye-catching so that others will share your message and take your brand deeper into the social cloud.

   Step Three: Create Content

This is the most vital part especially because social media is all about content you produce share and distribute across the internet. Producing content is not always easy, but to start off - think about what you already have created while running your business: proposals and research, presentation created to pitch your business, or even the news that you have read yourself. Content is usually right in front of you, it's just about translating it into relevant messages and transforming it into a suitable format. Another point you need to keep in mind is that not everyone will pay full attention to what you have to say on social media right from the start - that is why you need to repeat your core messages, but without being annoying.

   Step Four: Add Value

Identify your target audience. Keep in mind that everyone is looking for their own interest in some way or the other. Therefore, it is necessary that you provide valuable information, entertainment or benefits such as discounts, tip and tricks.

   Step Five: Be Relevant

Since your social media is going to be representing your business online, it is important to stay relevant to your core subject. It's always good to position yourself as an expert in your area rather than trying to attract people with information that may be trendy at the time, but has nothing to do with what you are trying to achieve as a business. Remember to focus on your overall goals and objectives.

Finally, Step Six: Monitor Your Success

It takes time to be successful with social media - it is not a quick win marketing method. That is why, it is even more important to measure your success right from the start. It is not just about how many sales you get out of your activities, but is also looking at more granular details and evaluating what works best for you. For instance, which content gets you the most feedback and engagement from your followers?
