Top Tech Predictions for 2015

January 11, 2015

As a New Year begins, the anticipation grows for what developments we will see in the New Year. What new technologies will change the world, as we know it? Every year Prototype Interactive predicts what will be the most significant advancements and 2015 looks to be an exciting year. Here are some of our team's top predictions.

Big Data

The amount of money spent on big data software and services worldwide will continue to increase. Businesses will begin to adopt a more data centric approach to strategy and will reorganize around big data analytics. The Internet of Things will also get serious about big data and using the valuable data collected by their device to help guide their next moves. Controversial issues will arise, as shown already with the scandal behind the Sony saga in December 2014.

Cloud Services

Security has been a hot topic in the cloud industry and this concern will be somewhat resolved in 2015 as businesses realize that the benefits outweigh the negatives. Cloud services are arguably just as secure as internal systems and if tackled in a multi-layered way with continuous testing, cloud computing is safe and much more efficient. The International Data Corporation (IDC) predicted in their 2015 forecast that PaaS, SaaS and IaaS services will be high in demand in 2015 with $118 billion in spending.

Mobile development

Move over smartphones and tablets for the Phablet, the mobile growth engine for 2015. Mobile growth will be slower than in previous years and mainly driven by phablets and enterprise mobile app development according to IDC. Mobile will shift to please users with faster iteration and more contextually relevant interactions.

Industry Disruption

Many industries will begin to see disruption caused by tech in 2015. For example, the financial sector is already beginning to see demand for new avenues for users to complete financial transactions. Businesses and industries will be influenced by a mixture of user experience demands and content personalization to improve their service.

Internet of Things

Last, but certainly not least, is the Internet of Things (IoT), possibly one of the most important factors for growth in 2015. It is a debate as to whether the hardware or software of the IoT will prove to be more important as 2015 unfolds. Undoubtedly, however, there will be the invention of an array of intelligent 'things' that we will be able to connect to our lifestyle to help with health, finance and happiness even.
